Iron Craft #6 - Peeps Mantle Decor

This Iron Craft challenge was fun - create something with marshmallow Peeps, or use them for inspiration. I stuck with something simple, since I'm still recovering from my gallbladder surgery. My mantle needed some brightening up, so I used the neon colors of the Peeps to add springtime brightness and fun.

The glass containers were ones I already had lying around. I used candy-coated chocolate eggs in the bottom, topped with Peeps, and then some flowers from the craft section at Wal-Mart. Easy peasy!

I finished the mantle by spelling Happy Easter with my letter blocks, hanging a Peeps banner I made a year or two ago, and displaying a picture of Christ at the tomb (a reminder of why we celebrate Easter).

Easter Decor

I've added to my mantle decorations. First, I made this adorable Peeps bunting. I used this tutorial and pattern from The Sweetest Occasion to make fun blue Peeps bunnies, then hot glued them to some lace ribbon. Now it looks so fun hanging from my mantle.

I liked the way the mantle looked in the above picture, and the kids were excited too, but I still felt it needed a bit more. So, in addition to the Peeps bunting and the Spring Wreath, I also clipped some rolled fabric flowers to my jug of branches, and wrapped lace around my potted plant.

Happy Spring!

Spring Wreath

I'm joining the ranks of craft bloggers making spring wreaths. This is a simple wreath, but makes a pretty addition to my mantle.

I cut a wreath shape out of cardboard, then wrapped it in burlap strips. Then I glued on a small variety of fabric flowers, as well as a gem-look button and a butterfly button. Quick and easy!

Now, what other lovely spring decor can I add to brighten up my mantle? It could still use some dressing up.

Maybe a bunting? A few little pictures, some fabric eggs or flowers? Ooh, I love imagining the possibilities.

Pretty Pillows

I love toile. It's one of my favorite fabric designs. However, it tends to be one of the more expensive designs as well. So I was super excited to find a red and white toile fabric remnant in the discount bin at Wal-Mart the other day. I snatched it up, excited to use it on something pretty.

Then I remembered that I had a couple of ugly throw pillows sitting in the closet waiting to be pretty-fied. I covered one with the toile. I wanted to showcase the pattern on the fabric, so I kept the pillow very simple.

The other pillow I covered with a lovely dark red fabric, and embellished with a ruffled lace heart.

I love the effect of the pillows on my pretty pink wing back chair.

Such a lovely romantic chair now! This is the extent of my Valentine's Day decorations right now, I hope to add more in the next little while.
